Support & setup

Install, activate, then confirm one real dictation.

Nokie's current candidate is a universal arm64 + x86_64 build for macOS 14.4 or later. Apple-silicon execution and Intel-under-Rosetta preflight pass; real Intel hardware validation is still a release gate.

Quick start
  1. Download Nokie from the link Polar emailed after purchase.
  2. Move Nokie to Applications and open it once.
  3. Grant Microphone and Speech Recognition access when macOS asks.
  4. Grant Automation when guided so Nokie can insert into the app you chose.
  5. Open a normal text field, hold Option-Space, speak, then release.
  6. Confirm the text appeared at the original cursor. Then enter your license key from the Polar email to activate.
Support scope
  • Validated now: Apple silicon; Intel slice and runtime pass Rosetta preflight.
  • Still required before public Intel support: the full dictation matrix on real Intel hardware.
  • Supported system: macOS 14.4 or later.
  • Launch language: English-first.
  • Support response target: one business day during the founder beta.
  • Support contact: support@nokie.app.

Permissions and why they exist

Microphone Required to capture your speech while the trigger is active.
Automation Required so Nokie can place dictated text back into the app that was active when you started speaking. If focus changes, insertion stops and the transcript remains on the clipboard.
Speech Recognition Enables live on-device partial text. If denied, Nokie still finishes with the bundled local Whisper model.
Troubleshooting
  • If the trigger works but nothing inserts, open System Settings → Privacy & Security → Automation, allow Nokie to control System Events, then try a normal text field again.
  • If Automation is denied or the target refuses insertion, paste manually from the clipboard; Nokie writes the transcript there before attempting delivery.
  • If Speech Recognition is denied, live partials are unavailable, but release the shortcut and wait for the bundled local Whisper final.
  • If transcription quality is poor, confirm you are using the launch-supported English-first path.
  • If Polar is temporarily unreachable, an already validated founder license keeps working through its 30-day offline grace period.
Compatibility truth
  • This site does not claim support for every app or text field.
  • Release notes should publish tested macOS versions and known issues.
  • Secure/password fields are intentionally not suitable dictation targets.
  • Manual updates should always point to a signed, notarized release and published checksum.
Founder-beta boundaries
  • English-first transcription; universal candidate with real-Intel validation pending.
  • Manual, signed updates through the releases page.
  • No cloud transcription, transcript account, or subscription.
  • Personal vocabulary is not part of the current founder beta; use Pins/macros for reusable phrases.
